Rough Draft Illustrator- Logo

rough-draft-Kyler-LemonsI created this logo of a Lemon, with a triangle on top using the gradient tool of blue and yellow to try and create a raindrop look. As you can see the gradient transitions from a blue to represent the water to yellow to go into the lemon. It is a representation of “LemonDrop” a droplet, within it a lemon was what I was going for.  My artist name is LemonDrop so I think it fits pretty accurate.  First I created an oval shape, almost an egg, then filled it with yellow. Next, I drew the stem and a leaf, on top of the oval and filled both of them in green. After that, I added a triangle, scaled it to the oval and centered it. In the end, I took the stem/leaf, triangle and pushed them to the back layers. I attempted to add effect to try and make the lemon look a bit more realistic but failed indefinitely. I did not use and outside sources, everything was from Illustrator. I may think about finding a source for the lemon, to get that more realistic appeal.  This was actually my second attempt at the draft, so I did have a rough-rough draft. This rough-rough draft I attempted to do the same logo as you see above, but I was trying to erase the edges of the oval, in an attempt to form the drop part. Opening the file on Friday, I instantly knew that I had to start over. So this time around I includes the triangle and placed it in the back of all the layers. The problem was the eraser, I was using the tool incorrectly, I was trying to erase the lines of the oval and almost sculpt out the droplet.

Graphic Design Final

This is the right one

I decided to do my graphic design on my first album cover. An album cover is a necessity for any musician wanting to put their media out there. The album cover has to draw in the audience, its suppose to catch their eye and make them intrigued, and also supposed to visually represent the music in some way. My inspiration to this design is the album “Beerbong and Bentleys” by Post Malone, which is a simple yellow with barbwire running through it. My artist name is LemonDrop, so I thought the yellow was appropriate. The jagged spiral I acquired from a website called Pixabay, which allows you to download pictures under a Creative Commons license as long as you have an account. The older looking screen picture was acquired in Goertzen Hall. The guitar is mine, and the picture was taken in my room against a white wall. The alien in the very center is actually a picture of a poster in my apartment, the poster is “2001: The Space Odyssey” a production by Stanley Kubrick. I ended up not using all the images I originally selected in the image collection part of this weeks posts. I started off by selecting the screen picture and erased the screen itself just keeping the rest as a border. I then placed the jagged spiral behind the screen layer and centered it, after that was accomplished I added a new layer and painted in the white spots with yellow, by using the paint bucket tool. I then brought in the alien poster picture, scaled it down, and centered it on the top layer. My last step was the most difficult, the guitar, I had taken the magic wand tool to try and delete the white wall background but realized it wasn’t going to work due to the contrast in the wall, so I grabbed the quick select tool and took my time by zooming in for detail. Once I deleted the wall and had the guitar by itself, I scaled it and rotated it to fit the spiral. I duplicated the guitar twice repeated the scaling and rotating, then saved, finished my draft just in time to leave for my next COM class.

After the peer’s comments, I decided they were right. I removed the guitars, they didn’t seem to fit with the remaining picture. I also changed the bottom part of the screen to make it blend in a little better. And last I added “LemonDrop” on the bottom of the screen as my artist name.

My Music Profile

My topic is my unique love for music production, this has been my main hobby for about three years and I plan to eventually make my living off of it. So I have plenty of original works and thought it would be an easy an accurate route for my topic. I have a small piano and drum pad as my main source of instrumentation, I also have a mic for lyrics or vocal recording. I recently just got an acoustic guitar for my birthday, and plan on learning how to use it as soon as possible. So I obviously have the equipment, experience, and means to use this as my topic. I will use my cell phone to obtain original photos, videos, and audio recording. If the quality is not sufficient enough I will use my professional Shure microphone. For my audio project I plan on making a song, if required to have words in the project, I can write some lyrics to fit the song. As of the video project I can record the process to make a song through the DAW (Digital audio workstation)  Studio One 3. I’ll keep it as simple as possible for anyone to be able to make a song with ease. Another idea would be to record myself learning how to use the acoustic guitar. For a logo, I was thinking of lemon with a cartoon looking face, or a yellow raindrop with a cartoon face, the reason for this is because of my artist name being LemonDrop. I would use this logo not only for the website but for a business card, or even just a business face. My main three inspirations, that produce media in each of their own unique ways are Kid Cudi, a music producer, Mel Brooks, a spectrum wide talented producer, and Gene Roddenberry, an ingenious producer lightyears ahead of his time. http://www.republicrecords.com/artists/kid-cudi, I can relate to Kid Cudi because we share similar aspirations. As a younger man, Scott Mescudi (Kid Cudi) also was doing media production courses throughout college before he dropped out, and started his music career with Kanye West. http://www.melbrooks.com/, Mel Brooks I chose because he brought his uniqueness to every one of his pieces. Brooks has been in the movie business for a long time, directing, producing and much more. http://www.roddenberry.com/, Gene Roddenberry I think had the biggest inspiration to me. He was the producer of Star Trek and inspired so much media today. He made things, many people had never even imagined of, and swept away the imagination.

About

My name is Kyler Aj Lemons, I’m from Olympia Washington area, in a small town called Yelm. I was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico and that was about the most eastern location I have lived at. I’ve stayed on the west coast basically ever since, I lived in northern California, Oregon, Hawaii and of course Washington. This is my first year at Washington State University coming in as a Junior, but I transferred from South Puget Sound Community College in Olympia. My purpose for this blog is to post the multimedia creations I produce in my COM 210 class. My biggest hobby is probably music production, but I enjoy the whole spectrum of the media arts. I have experience with Adobe products and prior experience in classes of media creation. These include a year of Photoshop and a video editing class using  Premiere Pro. In fact, in my editing class, I went the extra mile by doing a production of my own, for a nonprofit called Friendly Water for the World. My goal is to graduate out of Washington State’s Murrow College of Communication. With my major being Journalism & Media Production and my minor in Music Technology. To ultimately produce my own music for a living.
